Meet Zeus the lemur, a busy dad of four sets of twins

This is Zeus the lemur, a busy dad of eight newborn babies.

The rare ring-tailed lemur has fathered four sets of twins with four different partners.

And now the twins have become the new stars at Wellington Zoo in New Zealand.

Lisa Ridley, Wellington Zoo, New Zealand
“It’s a first. We’re all in shock, to be honest. It means that this boy here, this is Zeus, the father, has done his job. And to be honest, he has a tough job because he only has a 24 to 36 hour window while they’re in that season. And they only breed once a year. So, he got around very well.”

The twins were born in August and September. Ring-tailed lemurs, endemic to Madagascar, are classified as an endangered species.
